Kate Gosselin Responds to Estranged Son Collin’s Allegations of Abuse
Kate Gosselin has responded following allegations from her estranged son Collin Gosselin, who accused her of childhood abuse once again.
In an interview on Saturday, June 27, with the StrangeMcKnights YouTube channel, Collin, 22, made claims of mistreatment during his childhood and challenged Kate, 51, to take a lie detector test regarding his allegations.
On Monday, June 29, Kate addressed her fans in the comments section of a new TikTok video showcasing her life with her rescue dog, Koda. Although she didn’t mention Collin’s accusations in the video, she received numerous questions about her son.
One commenter suggested, “If you are absolutely sure that the accusations are false, I would recommend taking him to court for defamation!”
Kate replied, “I can’t because I’m a public figure. The rules are unfortunately different. Otherwise, I totally would!”
In a follow-up comment, she elaborated, “The rules differ for public figures. I consulted a well-known attorney in LA years ago when others made outrageous claims, and he advised me that the courts do not honor such cases if you’re in the public eye :(.”
Kate and her ex-husband Jon Gosselin gained fame through TLC’s reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8, which was later renamed Kate Plus 8 after their divorce. The series aired from 2007 to 2017 and followed the couple’s life with their eight children: twins Mady and Cara, now 25, and sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Alexis, Leah, Joel, and Aaden, all 22.
In 2024, Collin spoke about allegations of childhood abuse against his mother in an interview with the U.K.’s The Sun. Kate’s attorney informed Fox News that she would not comment on the claims at that time.
“She doesn’t want to comment. There’s no need to. The record speaks for itself,” her attorney stated.
Earlier in June, Us Weekly exclusively revealed the cover of Collin’s upcoming memoir, titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.
“My life was constantly on display for millions, yet what was truly happening remained concealed — in fact, much of it was intentionally obscured,” Collin shared with Us. “For years, others narrated my story through headlines, TV shows, and public speculation.”
“Now, I am finally revealing what was really happening behind the scenes,” he continued. “This book is about truth, survival, resilience, and reclaiming my voice after years of being silenced. If my story helps even one person feel less isolated or gives them the courage to share their own, then every challenging page was worth it.”
In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood is set for release on October 13.
