Which Stars from The Pitt Are Returning or Not Returning for Season 3 Following Departures?
The Pitt has been confirmed for a third season, although recent cast departures have overshadowed the excitement.
When the medical drama debuted on HBO Max in January 2025, fans were thrilled to see Noah Wyle take on a physician role once again, following his tenure on ER. It quickly became clear that audiences adored the entire ensemble, including Dr. Robby (Wyle), Dr. Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), charge nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell), and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).
Season 2 had a slightly different vibe with most of the cast returning, but notably, Ifeachor was absent. An insider revealed to Us Weekly in July 2025 that the plan for Ifeachor’s character — initially a fourth-year resident — was to transition into a doctor in future episodes.
The source mentioned that due to the nature of The Pitt, Dr. Collins would not appear in season 2, but Ifeachor “didn’t choose to leave the show” and remains hopeful about a potential return.
Similar reasoning was provided when it was announced that Ganesh would not return for season 3. Fans have openly expressed their frustration about the absence of several cherished characters.
Continue reading to find out which The Pitt stars will be back for season 3 — and who won’t:
Noah Wyle
Without Noah Wyle’s character, Dr. Robby, there’s no The Pitt, making his return highly anticipated.
Tracy Ifeachor
After her departure, Tracy Ifeachor discussed her hopes for the future.
“Playing Dr. Heather Collins was such a joy, and knowing how well-received she has been is truly humbling,” Ifeachor shared with Us in September 2025. “While I can’t predict her fate for the next season, I’m excited to move on to my next project, which is just fantastic. The lessons I learned as Dr. Heather Collins, a character who endures so much yet still supports others, have been invaluable.”
She continued: “No one really asks if she’s okay or needs time off. As women, we often carry emotional burdens without realizing it. This character has helped me understand that, and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.”

Season 2 showcased Langdon’s return to work after battling drug addiction, a storyline likely to continue.
